What can I cook?

The Kyle of Sutherland and the Northern Highlands offers some of the best produce in Britain - Wild Salmon and Venison from Ardgay Game, Black Pudding and Haggis from Aultbea and Dingwall, artisan meats from local farms at Swordale Farm Butchers, bread, pies and pastries from the Kyle Bakery, the sweetest raspberries and strawberries from the croft next door, locally made Highland Fine Cheeses do wonderful brie and blue cheese, Orkney Cheddar, Dornoch Gin, Black Isle Brewery, Balblair Whisky, fresh seafood from the West Coast sold every Thursday in the village, and almost weekly farmers markets throughout high across the surrounding villages. All of the above is available to buy in our local shops.

Much of these products are supplied in our breakfast hampers ( read "PACK" for more details on these) and there are juniper berries, blaeberries, rowan berries, rosehips, chanterelles, slippery jacks, ceps, ink caps, nettles, wild raspberries and blackberries growing all around the bases that you can forage if the season is right.

For many the fun is in camp cook outs; simple one pot meals of comfort food at the end of the day, and we'd like to help you plan some of these with the recipes and meal plans on our blog. They are a combination of easily procured ingredients and local fare with hints and tips on where to buy and how to cook. On top of that we will also do your dishes for you if you want, as no one should ever let housework come before adventure!

If eating out is what you are looking forward to then we have several great recommendations. It is always advisable to book ahead, and be aware that most places in the Highlands don't serve late so for the night of your arrival it may be advisable to eat before you get here.
